Meet the Team
Charlotte founded I Am My Sister's Keeper, Inc. (MSK) after seeing a lack of services for girls in Delaware. She loves empowering girls to think creatively about their futures. She is also the Co-Founder of My Sister, My Friend I Celebrate you, which is committed to acknowledging the unique relationships between women and the unbreakable bond of sisterhood and friendship. Charlotte Miller-Lacy is an Ambassador and Asset Champion for the IM40 initiative. IM40 proactively helps youth discover their strengths and Assets, encouraging them to build on the Assets they have. Charlotte is a member of Women in Action, Muriel E. Gilman Mentoring Program of the United Way of Delaware, and Women's Leadership Council in partnership with Great Dames Inc. In February, 2016 Charlotte Miller-Lacy was awarded the Image Builder Golden Rule Award for working everyday to ensure that children see their face in the future. One of her philosophies When you wake up in the morning we have two simple choices: Go back to sleep and dream, or wake up, chase and accomplish those dreams, Choose wisely!
Co-Founder/Chairwoman of the Board
Melody has worked in social services for over 15 years, serving youth in Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia and Wilmington, Delaware. She has worked with some of the most promising youth populations in our country, from commercially sexually exploited girls and rape victims, to gang-involved youth. She is the current Chairwoman of the Board for the organization and strives to bring awareness about girls issues to the forefront of the social justice movement. Melody holds a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Melody is a certified Behavior Analyst Technician and an advocate for the IM 40 Developmental Assets Movement. Melody is also a member of United Way of Delaware's Revive the Village Coalition~ a partnership of African-American community leaders to ensure youth have the resources they need to thrive and grow, with a focus on prepping youth 14-21 years of age to be college and career ready. Additionally, Melody is a proud and active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Melody has facilitated numerous presentations and workshops on effective classroom management tools for teachers, behavioral health challenges and career pathways for youth. She champions workforce development opportunities for youth and educates teachers, administrators, schools, colleges and organizations on how to successfully engage youth to reach their fullest potentially. In 2016, Melody received an award for Youth Advocacy and in 2017 she received the Purple Passion S-Hero Award for commitment and dedication to her community. Melody is married to the love of her life and a Mother of two daughters. Melody lives by this motto: You are not simply a product of your environment, change your environment from within!
